    What's an avatar?

    Hey all,

Had some questions about how to add an avatar to the website.  Here's a brief discussion on how to do that.

First, what's an avatar?  An "avatar", in the strict sense of the word, is a likeness or "image" of a person.  Basically in web terms, it is a picture that represents you

So, how do you add one to your profile?  First, find a picture you would like to use, then crop it down to a maximum of 80 pixels wide by 80 pixels tall.  It can be smaller than this, but that is the standard size for this site.  Save it as a JPG or GIF.

Then, log into the website and click on the "Edit Profile" link at the top of the screen.

Once your profile is loaded, look for the "Avatar Tab".  Select the Avatar tab, then click on the "Browse" button and locate the picture you want to use on your computer.  Once you've found and selected your picture, click the "Update" button to upload the picture to the website.

Due to web caching, it may take a few minutes for your avatar to appear in the forums and other places on the site.

    Good luck!

     Jonathan

Nice image, Jamie.  The next time I see a *** cat riding a bike, I'll know that it's you. Actually, with the size of the image being a minuscule 80 x 80 pixels, it brings back fond memories of the FIRST digital image that was important to me, BRAIN images, from the original EMI scanner, circa 1975, when I was an intern at UC San Diego.  We thought those were so miraculous, never imagining how good MRI scanning would get within another few decades.  Anyway, thanks for remind me about that very first...CAT SCAN!

I wonder exactly what is an asterisk-cat? It appears to me that the new forum software contains a "Bowdlerizing", i.e., vocabulary CENSORING module!  My reference above was to, shall we say, "kittycat," save as another common eight-letter term for such, starting with the letter "P,"  yet the forum software automatically removed the supposedly offensive first five letters! Kathy remarks that perhaps I am being somewhat of a smart (three further letters that would no doubt get immediately asterized or ostracized, referring to the part of the anatomy in most intimate contact with a bicycle saddle), but don't worry, my discussion ends here!
